Angkor Wat was “discovered” in 1860 by French Naturalist, Henri Mouhot. Angkor Wat was never a lost empire, because even though it had been abandoned, the khmer people continued to visit the site in afterwards. The reason Mouhot is given credit for the discovery of Angkor Wat, is because he made it known to the world though his writings and drawings of the sites.
