Overall, the film Cheaper by the Dozen depicts a lot of family dynamics underneath all of the humor and chaos. The film displays how gender roles are changing and being redefined by the absence of the mother, how moving impacts the mental health and behavior of children, and all of the family’s chaos creating unity. Old, stereotypical gender roles are changing and roles are not as clearly defined today. When Tom started coaching a college football team and had to move the family to a new town, the children were greatly affected and started to misbehave. Through all of the hardships the family faced, the family grew closer and realized that they will always be there for each other. The family may be larger than most other families, but ultimately the family functions the same as a four-person family. The size of a family does not change any family dynamics; they may just run a little less smoothly than a smaller family.
