The following is a composite from Daubin et al (2002). They performed a supertree analysis of 45 taxa from all three domains. Click here to see four of their parsimonious trees. The analysis used 730 rRNA trees in order to reduce the influence of lateral gene transfer by comparing multiple trees and keeping those relationships that seemed stable. The surprising results of this include: 1. The basal position of spirochaetes and chlamydiales. 2. The relatively advanced position of the Deinococcus-Thermus clade. 3. The separation of the gram positive organisms into two separate clades. |
