| This cladogram based on SSU rRNA sequence comparisons shows a clear separation of the Chlorobionts (here called Chlorophyta) and the Streptophytes. Note that the Prasinophytes are paraphyletic (labeled Clade I through Clade IV). The Mesostigmatophyceae (a praesinophyte) appears to be sister to the charophyte+embryophyte clade.
