DACTYLOGYRUS VASTATOR LIFE CYCLE

OLSON (1974)

Life Cycle of Dactylogyrus vastator. The egg is released by a gravid adult (Ha-b) and settles to the bottom of a pond where it develops until an immature adult emerges (Hc-f). Dactylogyrus attaches to the fish and makes its way to the gills (Hg-j).

Some aspects of Dactylogyrus anatomy:

1: head organs

2: eyespots

3-4: pharynx and intestine

5-7: testes, vas deferens, and genital pore

8-14:ovary, oviduct, genitointestinal canal, unembryonated egg in uterus, female genital opening, vitelline gland

15-: opisthaptor, anchor, transverse bar, marginal hooks

D-G: developing larva in the egg and emergence of the immature adult
