XANTHOPHYTA LINKS
We have kept the traditional taxonomic system here until a new phylogenetic system is formalized. This system is a modification of Hibberd (1990) and Margulis and Schwartz (1998). |
CLASS XANTHOPHYTEA
- This phylum has a single class with 5 orders.
- ORDER HETEROCHLORINALES
- Cells amoeboid and unicellular; flagellated reproductive stages.
- Heterochloris, Chloromeson, Chlamydomyxa.
- ORDER HETEROGLOEALES
- Cells coccoid or palmelloid; flagellated reproductive stages.
- Heterogloea, Gloeochloris, Characidiopsis.
- ORDER MISCHOCOCCALES
- Coccoid; vegetative cells cannot return to motile condition, form zoospores or autospores.
- Mischococcus, Botrydiopsis, Botryochloris, Characiopsis, Ophiocytium, Bumilleriopsis.
- ORDER TRIBONEMATALES
- Filamentous; cell wall made of overlapping H-pieces; zoospores and aplanospores; isogamy.
- Tribonema, Bumilleria, Heterothrix.
- ORDER VAUCHERIALES
- Siphonaceous, filamentous or bladder-like; multinucleate; biflagellate or multiflagellate zoospores; oogamy.
- Vaucheria, Botrydium.
