A TAXONOMY OF THE ANGIOSPERMOPHYTA (CRONQUIST, 1981)

A TAXONOMY OF THE ANGIOSPERMOPHYTA (CRONQUIST, 1981)

The system of Cronquist (1981) is characteristic of the classical systems of flowering plant taxonomy. The higher taxa are defined by characteristics of the vegetative and reproductive structures, and therefore, quite useful. The flowering plants as defined by Cronquist (1981) have 148 families; therefore, the orders, families and genera given here are meant as examples only. Numbers within parentheses indicate the number of taxa within the next lower rank contained within that taxon. For example, Subclass Magnoliidae (8) means that the subclass contains 8 orders.
