The following figure is a synopsis of the work that had been completed on many taxa and multiple gene sequences. It shows a basal set of families that are sisters to the rest of the phylum. It establishes a sister relationship between the magnoliids and the monocots, which together are sisters to the Ceratophyllales + eudicots.
