The following figure is a synopsis of the work that had been completed on many taxa and multiple gene sequences. It shows a basal set of families that are sisters to the rest of the phylum. It establishes the monophyly of the magnoliids, the monocots, and the eudicots. The diagram is from Chase and Reveal (2009) that includes their recommended classification.
