ASPIDOGASTER CONCHICOLA LIFE CYCLE

OLSON (1974)

Life Cycle of Aspidogaster conchicola. The egg is released by a gravid adult (Ha-c). The egg can mature in the same animal (Hd-f) or it can emerge from the host (Hj-k) where it can infect other clams (Hk-l) or infect a turtle (Im).

Some aspects of Aspidogaster anatomy:

1: mouth sucker

2: ventral sucker divided into many smaller suckers

3-4: pharynx and intestine

5-7: testes, vas deferens

9: common genital pore

10-15: ovary, oviduct, Laurer’s canal, descending limb of the uterus, vitelline gland

18-19: egg shell, operculum

B-G: developing larva
