HIERARCHICAL CLASSIFICATION OF THE PHYLUM EPSILONPROTEOBACTERIA

PHYLUM EPSILONPROTEOBACTERIA LINKS
The Epsilonnproteobacteria s the least known group within this kingdom. We suggest that the following should be a provisional classification only. The 2 orders correspond to the named taxa of Campbell et al. (2006).
  • CLASS CAMPYLOBACTERIAE
    • Curved or spiral rods. They do not form spores. They swim in a corkscrew motion with single polar flagella (unsheathed). They are microaerophilic or anaerobic chemoorganotrophs in which only amino acids or TCA (Kreb’s Cycle) intermediates are oxidized.
    • ORDER NAUTILIALES
      • Taxa mainly of hydrothermal vents
      • Nautilia, Caminibacter, Lebetimonas
      • Incertae Sedis: Hydrogenimonas, Nitratiruptor, Thioreductor
    • ORDER CAMPYLOBACTERALES
      • Contains taxa of hydrothermal vents and opportunistic pathogens.
      • Campylobacter, Arcobacter, Nitratifractor, Sulfurospirillum, Sulfurimonas, Sulfurovum, Sulfiricurvum, Thiomicrospira
      • Helicobacter, Thiovulum, Wolinella
