This system follows that of Adl et al. (2012).

SUBPHYLUM KICKXELLOMYCOTINA

  • CLASS KICKXELLOMYCETES
    • Parasites of other fungi or filaments have crosswalls (septa) that are perforated and have plugs.
  • ORDER KICKXELLALES
    • Filamentous; hyphae have septa with lens-shaped cavities; asexual reproduction by sporangiola (a merosporangium of single spores). Saprobes or parasites of other fungi.
    • Dipsacomyes, Kickxella, Coemansia, Linderina, Martensella, Martensiomyces, Spirodactylon, Spiromyces.
  • ORDER DIMARGARITALES
    • Filamentous; hyphae with septa which have a lens-shaped cavity; asexual reproduction by merosporangium of bispores. Zygospore ornamented. Parasites of fungi, especially Mucorales.
    • Dimargaris, Dispira, Spinalia, Tieghemiomyces.
  • ORDER HARPELLALES (SMITTALES)
    • Mostly obligate parasites attached to chitinous gut linings, especially of hindgut, or, externally, to exoskeleton. Vegetative phase much reduced, unbranched and coenocytic, or branched, septate and attached by a basal cell; asexual reproduction by exogenous spores with appendages (trichospores), arthrospores, sporangiospores or even amoeboid cells; resting spores (zygospores) produced by some, by fusion of protoplasts.
    • Smittum, Furculomyces, Legeriomyces, Harpella, Enterobryus, Orphella, Zygopolaris.
  • ORDER ASELLARIALES
    • Asellaria, Orchesellaria

SUBPHYLUM ZOOPAGOMYCOTINA

  • CLASS ZOOPAGOMYCETES
  • ORDER ZOOPAGALES
    • Filamentous; majority predaceous on rhizopod protists, or on free-living nematodes, or endoparasitic in them; vegetative phase of branched aseptate hyphae or coiled, branched or unbranched filament; asexual reproduction by conidia; zygospores covered with hemispherical warts.
    • Zoopage, Amoebophilus, Piptocephalis, Rhopalomyces, Sigmoideomyces, Stylopage, Syncephalis, Chochlonema.
