PHYLOGENETIC RELATIONSHIPS BETWEEN GROUPS OF VASCULAR CRYPTOGAMS

PHYLOGENETIC RELATIONSHIPS BETWEEN GROUPS OF VASCULAR CRYPTOGAMS (PEARSON, 1995)

This figure is taken from Pearson (1995). The phylogeny was produced by comparisons between morphological characters and informed by molecular data. Pearson illustrates the “Psilopsida” as the primitive group from which the other lines of vascular plants arose. In this view, the lycopods, horsetails, and ferns all represent different lines of evolution. Compare this with Pryer et al. (2001).
