The story of the Kintzler murders and the subsequent trials of the Moyers, Ettinger, and Erb, were more than local or even regional stories. Newspaper editors of the late nineteenth century knew that readers were interested in sensational tales. The events surrounding the Kintzler murders were tragic, full of intrigue and human interest, and drawn out over five years. Newspapers from the Susquehanna Valley, across the state of Pennsylvania, and even across the nation covered the twists and turns from the day after the killings to the deaths of the four convicted men.
