George W. Walborn
On July 22, 1863, 44-year-old George W. Walborn died of chronic diarrhea in the Camden Street Hospital in Baltimore, MD. He was a member of Company A of the 172nd Pennsylvania infantry. He entered service in October 1862 as a nine-month draftee. Before the war, Walborn was a farmer and a laborer in a quarry.
His regiment was moving southward in the days after Gettysburg to keep the pressure on Lee’s army. An affidavit from an army clerk noted that Walborn’s unit was on the march in northern Virginia when he fell ill. He “was sent to said hospital was there but a few days & died.”
