There would be no more MRS degree for female students after the women’s liberation movement took hold! The increasing importance of women’s professional development is evident in this 1967 Crusader article, which discusses the upcoming visit of Selinsgrove’s branch of the American Association of University Women (AAUW), an organization dedicated to women’s education and advancement. The special visit “was planned especially for the senior women at Susquehanna,” and one senior attending would receive a free one-year membership to AAUW! By establishing relationships with organizations like AAUW, Susquehanna women were well on their way to having fulfilling lives after college.

AWS also gave female students advice and encouragement about their capacity to succeed in Women’s Potential Week, a three-day event summarized in this 1969 article from the Crusader. The event featured intriguing discussions about achieving happiness in one’s career, becoming involved in community service, succeeding in the business world, and navigating job interviews. It concluded with a fashion show featuring formal attire from local vendors. Women’s Potential Week most definitely promoted the idea that “[w]ith a little inspiration and ingenuity there’s no limit to what a woman can do.”
