Printed in Milan, this copy of the playwright Plautus’ Comedies has the distinction of being the oldest book in the Blough-Weis Library. Can you guess the date this book was published?

As you can see, the text of the play is at the center of each page, with commentary by the scholar Giovanni Battista Pio framing it, and printed marginal notes to guide the reader in locating specific passages. These particular pages shown were of special interest to one of the original owners, who has written his own notes in both Latin and Greek in the margins.
