The Blough-Weis Library has a wide variety of student workers who all come from different backgrounds and perspectives. However, one academic department that is heavily represented is the English and Creative Writing Department. Here are a few of our English and Creative Writing majors that work at the library:

Haley Dittbrenner

Haley is a junior creative writing and publishing & editing double major, with a minor in professional and civic writing. She has been working at the library for a year and currently serves as a student manager and a library intern. As a student manager, she checks books in and out, works the closing shift and does periodical organization. For her internship, Haley is responsible for starting up and expanding Susquehanna’s open access programs. She has enjoyed this work so much that she hopes to become an open access librarian in the future. The Drexel Hill native is a big fan of the library’s mascot, Roger the Kiwi and says her favorite book is The Metamorphosis, by Franz Kafka. Some other fun facts about Haley are that she self-published her first collection of short stories this summer, she’s an avid painter, her favorite animal is the painted bunting, and Joyce Carol Oates once refused to give her writing advice.

Liann Melendez Quinones

Liann (Lee-on) is a junior who is double majoring in publishing & editing and advertising & public relations, with a marketing minor. She has worked at the library for a year as a marketing and outreach student manager where she makes promotional graphics and videos for the library’s social media pages. However, she’s currently flexing her creative skills by making buttons for the library. Liann feels her job at the library has helped strengthen her career goals of working in the marketing department of a publishing house. Some more fun facts about Liann are that she is from Lebanon, PA; her favorite books are Bad Reputation, by Krista and Becca Ritchie and Darling Venom, by Parker S. Huntington; her favorite K-Pop group is ENHYPEN; and she hopes one day to live in a converted van as she travels across the country.

Lexie Kauffman

Lexie is a sophomore who majors in creative writing and publishing & editing, while also being a member of the honors program. She has worked as a student manager for a year was drawn to the job due to her passion for reading and writing. Some of her responsibilities include supervising the front desk on weekends, opening the library on weekends, and checking books in and out. Lexie’s current favorite book is A Brush with Love, by Mazey Eddings, and hopes to one day publish her own work of genre fiction. Lexie would describe herself as an avid Taylor Swift listener. Although she loves working at the library, she misses her cat Josie who lives at home with her family in Lancaster.

Lindsay Hirschman

Lindsay is a sophomore creative writing major with a minor in publishing & editing, who just started working as a juvenile literature collection assistant this year. She wanted to work for the library in hopes of gaining professional experience with books. So far, her responsibilities are assisting the education librarian in selecting and acquiring new books for the collection, helping shelve and arrange books, and using established criteria to examine the diversity of the collection’s content. Some fun facts about Lindsay are that she’s from Princeton, NJ; her favorite book is Worm loves Worm, by J. J. Austrian; she has a twin; and she has done archery for eight years. In the future, she hopes to become a children’s author.
