The Blough-Weis Library welcomes Amir El-Chidiac as our new Research and Instruction Librarian!

Amir comes to SU from North Carolina for a diversity resident position. They recently finished their Masters of Library Science at North Carolina Central University. They also have a Masters in Creative Writing and a BA in Women and Gender Studies. Amir is a published author and co-editor of an anthology.

When asked why they chose to come to SU, Amir said, “I felt like the faculty I met with were really caring and genuine people, and they wanted to find somebody who would really care about the students and wanted a positive and healthy work environment.”

Subjects they cover…

  • English and creative writing
  • Religion
  • Jewish studies
  • Diversity studies
  • Africana studies
  • Arts administration

Amir is a liaison between the library and the departments that they cover. They work with students in those departments for research or finding sources for papers. In addition, Amir is working with other librarians in support of first-generation students.

“My priority is to students.”

This semester, Amir has a goal of reaching out to student organizations in support of diversity efforts on campus. They also want to work on first-generation outreach and programming.

Amir says students will be surprised how much help they can get from librarians. It’s like “having someone on your side who’s not going to make you feel bad or shame you for asking for help.”

“We’re all nerds; we actually want you to schedule an appointment with us.”

If Amir could give advice to their college self now…

“Sometimes it’s hard, but don’t be afraid to ask for help and use your resources.”

Stop by and say Hi to Amir at the Blough-Weis Library!
