The Blough-Weis Library welcomes Brianne Dort as our new Systems Librarian!

Brianne comes to SU from Virginia. She did her undergraduate studies in English and History at Hollands University. She got her Masters in Library Science at Catholic University. Brianne did theatre in high school and enjoys painting and reading.

When asked why she chose to come to SU, Brianne said she really enjoys the small private school environment. “I like getting the opportunity to have more of a hand in the school community.”

“I’m really excited to get to know the students and find out what makes them love the school and what they need.”

Subjects she covers…

  • Theatre
  • Political Science

Brianne works on the “behind the scenes technical stuff.” She makes sure that students can have access to the resources they need at 3 am: check out books and locate sources for that paper they procrastinated on. Starting in the spring, Brianne will also be the liaison for the theatre and political science departments.

This semester, Brianne has a goal of “getting to know the campus and how I can best serve everybody.”

Brianne says utilizing the library “helps you to expand your knowledge base and become a better student.” She wants to encourage students to step away from the habit of using google for research. She says librarians can help students find things they wouldn’t normally look for and eliminate all of the searching through unhelpful materials.

“You never know when you’re going to learn something new and who is going to help you grow as a person.”

If Brianne could give advice to her college self now…

“Enjoy the experience more, try new things, and take risks.”

Drop by and say Hi to Brianne at the Blough-Weis Library!
