About the Course, “The Holocaust”

When you Google “Holocaust,” something like 41 million hits come up.  Many of them seek to educate in some way, others aim mainly to preserve or commemorate, some groups unfortunately use the web to deny that the Holocaust happen, and others even try to “entertain” visitors in some way.  Many people in the world learn about events of the Holocaust through movies, books, or other popular media, and many of us study the Holocaust in school.  The web, though, is the greatest source of information for those interested in the Holocaust.

This website, which grew out of a course on the Holocaust taught at Susquehanna University in Fall 2015, analyzes examples of websites about these events: those created by universities and museums, those run by amateurs or small groups, sites for those who deny the Holocaust happened, and interactive websites.  By studying a number of these sites, our class has drawn some broad conclusions about how the Holocaust is represented on the internet.
