For my remix project, I created an interactive map of the United States with headlines about Donald Trump during his 2016 Presidential Election campaign (specifically, from September 2016.) My goal was to show the polarized views of op eds published by newspapers across the country. The background image shows the political leanings of each state to give a basis for comparison. Not all of the headlines match their state’s dominant party! This demonstrates the unusual circumstances of this election as the Republican candidate was largely unsupported by his own party (and found unlikely support in some majority Democrat states.
To interact with the map, hover over each location pin to read its headline. If you would like to read the full article, clicking on the location pin will open a new browser tab to the online article.
